ASUS RT-AX86U (AX5700) Dual Band WiFi 6 Extendable Gaming Router, 2.5G Port,

The ASUS RT-AX86U is a dual-band WiFi 6 gaming router engineered for households needing fast wireless throughput and reliable wired connectivity. Built to handle heavy bandwidth demands, it suits online gamers and busy homes looking to optimize their local network speeds.

For wireless performance, the router uses WiFi 6 (802.11ax) technology along with 160MHz channels to deliver combined speeds of up to 5700 Mbps. Mobile gamers can open the ASUS Router app and activate Mobile Game Mode with a single tap, which works to minimize lag and reduce latency during gameplay.

Wired setups benefit from substantial bandwidth support, including a dedicated 2.5 Gbps port alongside aggregated 2 Gbps WAN connections. For larger properties, built-in AiMesh support allows you to link other compatible ASUS hardware into a single whole-home network. Network security is integrated directly via lifetime free ASUS AiProtection Pro powered by Trend Micro, incorporating WPA3 encryption and advanced parental controls.

Keep in mind that expanding coverage beyond a single access point requires investing in additional AiMesh-compatible routers. Activating specialized latency features like Mobile Game Mode also requires using the mobile app rather than purely automated hardware switching.

Verdict: The ASUS RT-AX86U is an excellent choice for gamers and multi-device homes needing multi-gigabit wired capability and high-speed WiFi 6 performance. It delivers strong network control, robust security, and practical expansion options in a single unit.

A great fit if you:

• Play mobile games and want a quick way to lower in-game latency via an app.
• Have internet plans or local devices that use 2 Gbps WAN aggregation or a 2.5 Gbps wired port.
• Want built-in parental controls and network security without recurring subscription fees.
• Plan to build a mesh system using AiMesh-compatible hardware.

Consider something else if you:

• Do not need high-speed multi-gigabit wired ports or WiFi 6 bandwidth.
• Prefer simple plug-and-play routers without app-based gaming modes or advanced settings.
