Klipsch Reference R-40PM Powered Bookshelf Speakers - 90-Degree x 90-Degree Tractrix Horn - Linear Travel Suspension - Sleek, Modern Appearance

Klipsch R-40PM Bookshelf Speakers are powered bookshelf speakers designed for buyers who want a complete audio setup with flexible connections and a built in amplifier. The combination of directivity focused horn technology, a dedicated tweeter design, and multiple input options makes this set a fit for listeners who want speakers for music and movies without adding an audio/video receiver.

The 90-degree x 90-degree Tractrix Horn is one of the key design choices in the R-40PM. Its updated horn shape uses larger outer dimensions to help control high frequency direction over a wider range, which is intended to create a more accurate sound stage. For everyday listening, this means the speaker design is focused on directing high frequency sound in a controlled way rather than simply adding more components.

The 1-inch Linear Travel Suspension tweeter is another important part of the design. This aluminum tweeter assembly is made to be lightweight and rigid, while the LTS design focuses on minimizing distortion for more detailed performances. The 4-inch spun-copper thermoformed crystalline polymer woofers add the lower frequency portion of the speaker design, using steeper cone angles for a smoother response and improved accuracy.

The R-40PM also focuses on convenience through its connection choices. Bluetooth allows wireless streaming, while phono with a ground screw terminal supports turntable connections. Digital and analog inputs give buyers additional ways to connect their audio sources, and the customized amplifier is tuned specifically for the speakers, removing the need for an audio/video receiver.

Verdict: The Klipsch R-40PM is a strong choice for shoppers who want powered bookshelf speakers with flexible connections and a design focused on detailed sound. Buyers who want a simple speaker system with built in amplification should consider it, while those looking for a different speaker format or setup style may want another option.
