Samsung SSD 990 PRO 1TB, PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280, Up to 7,450

The Samsung 990 PRO 1TB is an internal PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 solid-state drive built for high-demand computing, fast file transfers, and gaming setups. By pushing sequential read and write speeds up to 7,450 MB/s and 6,900 MB/s respectively, it maxes out near the physical ceiling of the PCIe 4.0 interface to reduce waiting times across demanding applications.

Daily system responsiveness gets a notable boost thanks to random read and write speeds reaching up to 1,400K and 1,550K IOPS. This random performance improvement directly benefits gaming load screens on PlayStation 5 consoles as well as DirectStorage-enabled PC games, getting you into gameplay significantly faster.

Efficiency and heat dissipation are handled by a nickel-coated controller that provides thermal regulation without adding excessive bulk. It delivers up to 50 percent improved performance per watt compared to the previous 980 PRO model, and its slim profile meets PCI-SIG D8 specifications for clean installation inside compatible desktop motherboards and laptops. You can also manage drive health, secure data, and apply firmware updates using the Samsung Magician software suite.

As for trade-offs, this model caps out at 1TB of storage capacity, which may fill up quickly if you maintain a large library of modern games and media files. The drive also relies on its slim controller design rather than a built-in metal heatsink, so your system must meet standard physical clearances and cooling needs.

Verdict: The Samsung 990 PRO 1TB is a top-tier choice for gamers and power users who want near-peak PCIe 4.0 speeds for a PS5 console or modern PC. If you need maximum transfer rates and reliable thermal management in an M.2 slot, this drive delivers exactly that.
